Monday's Mom! JeeYoung Dobbs of Seattle, WA
JeeYoung is a 31 year-old new first-time mom to a darling daughter. When not baking bagels from scratch and hanging out with her hubby in Seattle's gorgeous and leafy Madison Valley neighborhood, JeeYoung is back to work as a key player at the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture at the University of Washington. She enjoys exploring Seattle's foodie landscape with her sister and cultivates a group of girlfriends who indulge in the occasional Karaoke marathon. We asked her our Namely Newborns Dozen.
Please share a picture of yourself and your baby! I'm not in the photo, but she's cute enough for both of us.
1. How long have you been a mom?
11 months!
2. What is your baby's name?
Alice Gilbert Dobbs
3. What inspired this name?
My grandmother's name is Alice, Luke's middle name is Gilbert, and well, the last name speaks for itself. My grandmother was a hilarious, irreverent, and wildly intelligent lady. She passed away a few years ago and I wanted to pass on her legacy to my daughter. Gilbert is the name of Luke's (eds. note:the dad/husband) grandpa. If we have another child and it's a boy, we plan to name him Diego Gilbert. All of kids will have Gilbert as their middle name. Kind of like the Korean tradition of having a generational name.
4. What is the cutest thing your kid has done this week?
She spun herself in circles while sitting on the floor, waving her hands, and yelling at the top of her lungs. I thought it was hilarious.
5. What is the product that you needed when your baby was six-months-old and under, that surprised you the most?
I needed soothies by Lansinoh - seriously. We used the Aden & Anais swaddle blankets religiously. So soft, so easy to use, and perfect for hot or cold weather.
6. How many bibs does your baby use in a day?
Ummm, about 7. She used to go through like 20 a day. We currently have 50 bibs on rotation at our house. It's bib madness.
7. What is the baby product that you cannot live without?
I cannot live without her sleep sacks. We are using the light weight halo sleep sack since it's warmer, but my favorite is the pamper sacks. I also love my Ergo and Babyhawk carriers. And I love my cloth diapers. We use Fuzzibunz, Flip System, Grovia, and indian prefolds.
8. What is your baby's favorite sleepy time companion?
It used to be her lamby, but now it's just her noise machine. We have the marpac sound conditioner. It's awesome. I also love her kissaluv wool diaper cover. We cloth diaper, so the wool cover is a lifesaver at nighttime since she's in the same diaper for 12 hours straight.
9. How did you decorate the baby's room? Did you have a theme? Second-hand gear? Is it just like the other spaces in your home?
We kind of did it willy nilly. Had a bunch of hand-me-downs, then bought a bunch of new stuff once the baby was born. I did choose green for her wall color b/c i always choose green. I don't know why. Maybe because it's a safe color? I'm not the most adventurous designer.
10. What baby gift that you have received did you treasure the most?
I love the quilt my mom made for Alice.
11. What is the most practical baby gift you have received?
Baby nail clippers.
12. If you were recommending something for a friend to bring to someone's baby shower what would it be?
I'd recommend the Aiden & Anais swaddle blankets, some milkmakers cookies (delicious), or if they live somewhere chilly, a JJ Cole Bundle Me.
Tune in next Monday for another moms perspective on the Namely Newborns Mommy Monday Dozen!
