What Would You do if No one Remembered his First Birthday?

Posted by Namely Newborns on Dec 17th 2014

Everyone is so excited when a newborn comes into the world. Parties and showers are given. Baby gifts of all shapes and sizes arrive. Emails are sent. Pictures are shared on face book and snap check. The event is tweeted about and your family is the center of attention. But all good things come to an end and the artist Andy Warhol is always quoted as saying fame never lasts more than 15 seconds. So after a few months go by, the excitement dies down and family and friends focus on the next happy or sad event. But to you every little thing that happens that first year is momentous- a new experience and really important.- something to shout about.

And one of the highlights will be the first birthday. It is the culmination of an amazing year with totally new accomplishments and challenges. But what if no one remembers your little ones first birthday. Would you be upset and angry? Nobody means to forget; but people do . Anybody can give a big party and then , of course, people will remember, but what if you don't plan a celebration. You still want a little recognition for that special day.  Don't fret, there are clever ways to remind family and friends that the twelve months have passed and there is a new reason to celebrate. If you are smart. you won't wait until month 11 to remind your gang. Keep them posted on special happenings as the year goes on so they won't be caught off guard when the actual birthday occurs.

Here are some important milestone in your baby's first year?

  • Rolls over
  • Smiles for the first time
  • Says his first word?
  • Takes his first step
  • Sleeps through the night
  • Eats his first solid food
  • Has his first ice cream cone
  • Goes in the pool
  • Sits up
  • Gives you a hug
These are just a few of the wonderful things that you will experience. Don't let these milestones go unnoticed. Just talking about them is not enough. Email pictures of every adorable moment to your friends and family. Add a caption with the date. Share these wonderful memories on face book. Add a cute note to explain what is happening and how old your kiddo is at each stage.Take a video with your i-phone and email it. Send a holiday card with a picture and a note telling what amazing things he has accomplished and be sure to mention how old he is at every step of the way.

A written journal is a wonderful thing to have..Write down your thoughts and feelings as time goes by. Keep a record of your baby's immunization and illnesses. Record what foods are introduced and if there is any negative reaction. When you are up in the middle of the night waiting for baby to settle down, it would be a great way to pass the time. It would be a way to keep a record of progress so you realize how far you have come each month. If baby sleeps 2 hours between feedings at week one and then  4 hours between feedings at week 6; you will feel a sense of accomplishment .

This journal could be passed down to your child when he is old enough to appreciate it and  it would be something that would be treasured. You could share this written record of baby's first year with your family or keep it tucked away into the time is right to deliver into the hands of the person who will enjoy it the most.
