1. Put the initials in the wrong order.Put the initials  in this order; first name, middle name and last name if you want all of the letters the same size.

2. If you want the middle letter of the monogram to be larger, don't put the letters in the logical order of first name,middle name and last. Put initial of the last name in the middle.

3. Don't use lower case letters for a monogram; they appear insignificant.

4. If the parents have hyphenated names; don't select a monogram. Someone will be upset  if their name doesn't appear in the monogram.
