Baby Name Trends for 2015

Posted by Namely Newborns on Dec 29th 2014

The coming new year may welcome a new addition to your family or the family of a loved one. If so, there are some interesting naming trends that may give you a few ideas on finding the perfect name for your baby. Whichever name you choose, Namely Newborns Personalized Baby Blankets will accommodate them accordingly.

One trend that may be very popular in 2015 is androgynous names, especially for parents of girls with popular names like Jaelyn, Addison, and Dallas. These names were once used for boys, but now they are becoming common place for both genders, in much the same way Charlie and Sandy were historically.

Speaking of history, it appears that names from the 19th century are also making an unexpected comeback, with Lincoln and Rhett leading the way.

Another  trend changes existing names by adding an extra "T" -- think of Wyatt, the daughter of Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, who have essentially catalyzed this trend. Other examples are Emmett, Elliot, Scarlett, and Charlotte.

Another trend that we are seeing a lot of is names with the letter 'X' in them, as popularized by the children of celebrities Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt: Pax, Maddox, and Knox. Names starting with the letter "P" are growing in popularity, which hasn't been seen since the 1950s. A couple of "P" names that are being used now are Penelope and Piper. Greek names are also being seen more, such as Chloe, Daphne, and Phoebe.

Of course, there are those who create new names and parents that have been coming up with new long forms of names such as Trenton, Leviathan, and Maxton.
