How to Make a Holiday Bazaar Fun!

Friday, December 9th, 2011

Yesterday, was our second bazaar and it was terrific. We put all of our reduced items including Margery Ellen Layette in the front room in baskets. Our back room showed displays of gift sets from Little Giraffe, Bearington Bear and our custom line of organic blankets.Everyone received a free shopping tote when they entered and then it was a mad rush to fill it with adorable baby gifts before we ran out of popular sizes.

We invited several guests to spice up the event. Danny Elfenbein from the Zoo Miami  is helping us connect with the zoo. He bought a 3 Marthas baby towel featuring  what else – elephants. 10% of all items purchased with the code zoobaby are donated to the new zoo babies. There is an upcoming preganancy at the zoo and judging from the size of the mother, this will not be a secret long.

Our second guest was artist Carolyn Heiss. She is able to create a beautiful portrait of a child or any group of children and family members from a portrait. She brought beautiful samples of her work as well as pieces of estate jewelry and fine baby earings in 14 k gold with diamonds. Wow! what a great gift for a newborn.

How to Jazz up a Neutral Organic Nursery

Sunday, September 4th, 2011

Organic nurseries provide the perfect safe nesting environment for newborns.  But the commitment to an organic nursery is not an easy one. Many organic bedding sets are white or natural.  You may have limitations in color and products, but that doesn’t meant you have limitiations in quality and style. Once you have decided that you must have an organic nursery, here are our tips to jazz up your nursery.

Pure White Organic Bedding by Dwell Studio

Most  organic bedding is white or natural like this Dwell Bedding set . So in order to make your room a jewel here are our tips.

l. Paint the room a deep jewel tone color like emerald green, hot pink,or cobalt blue.

2. Divide the walls in half with a molding and paint the upper portion a lighter tone of the same color as the lower portion. If you want to be really dramatic, choose two colors like pink and green , or aqua and brown, lavender and sage, or navy and red.

3. Accent with bright white baseboards and molding.

4. Include an organic blanket in bright colors to accent your crib.  Custom the blanket in colors that repeat the wall colors.

5.Personalize everything with bright colored embroidery. Keep repeating the same accent colors on everything you can find.

6. Look for organic towels and clothing. These can be hung on dowels on your wall to punch out color in your room.

7. If you choose an area rug and can’t find organic; make sure you choose only cotton and something that can be washed.
8. Add a bright wall organizer from 3 Sprouts. They come in hippo, monkey and alligator designs. These wonderfully characters will  decorate your walls, and organize your clutter and will still be safe and organic.

What’s the Best Present to Give Big Brother or Sister

What’s the Best Present to Give Big Brother or Sister?
Nothing is more traumatic for a toddler than to be replaced by a new baby. This little stranger gets all of the attention and tons of presents. Big brother and sister are going to be very jealous. They may even resort to hitting or biting the new baby, taking his toys away or stealing his bottle.

Be considerate of this sensitive older sibling. He is going to need a lot of love and you can help.  When you select a present for his baby brother or sister; the most thoughtful thing you can do is bring or send him a present too.
That being said; what do you get the older sibling.?Here are 4 great ideas.

l.The easiest gift to bring is a  book. This gives immediate gratification. If you are visiting, you can always spend a bit of time and read the book to the older child. We recommend big brother books like Meet Jack Truck or any of the Olivia books for the little girls. The LLama, Mamma series and Curious George  is great for kids of both sexes 2-5. If the sibling is over five, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible,No Good , Very Bad Day is always a pleaser.

2. It’s hard to guess which toys kids have or like once they are over two. You can never go wrong, however,  with a soft stuffed animal for kids of both sexes. This is the time that the older sibling needs a little tender love and a soft plush bunny or teddy bear will do the trick.

3.Another popular idea is a character beach towel. No one can have too many hooded towels. Finding a towel with a sports or animal theme is always a welcome addition.

4. If the older child is in pre-school or camp, a nap mat or back pack makes a useful gift that will show him that it’s more fun to be older.

Unless you know that the child likes clothes,  we find that most clothing is unappreciated by a child. Please avoid getting a big brother or sister shirt- this is the last thing the older child wants to be reminded of ; he knows his role has changed and doesn’t need it to be rubbed in with a trite logo shirt.

Bright Summer Beach Towels

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

Nothing says summer at the beach better than bright beach towels.

Baby is covered in his bright Bumblebee Towel

Before you hit the beach or hang poolside with your baby , make  you’ve got all the essentials. That means sunscreen, plenty of towels, snacks and a stylish bag to carry it all.

The most important accessory for your baby is a great towel. A baby towel should cover the child from head to toe to protect against harmful sun rays and to provide warmth from cool summer breezes after a dip in the pool or an adventure in the surf.   Baby’s sensitive skin needs to be protected at all times. After swimming we recommend wrapping baby in a warm 100 % cotton terry towel. A towel with a generous hood not only protects him from dangerous uv rays, but dries him off quickly especially the hair. It is easy for a child to get chilled after swimming and most kids get fussy when you towel them off. But if they have their favorite towel with them; they will look forward to being wrapped up.

Baseball hooded tubby towel is great for the sports fan!

Tips for finding the right beach towel:

1. Look for a towel with a hood.

2. Make sure it 100% cotton.

3. Make sure it is long enough to cover baby from head to toe.

4. Find a character or theme that is fun so everyone wants to be wrapped in a towel.

5. Personalize with a name or initial to avoid mixing up towels.

Want to change  your baby at the beach without finding a public restroom. ? It’s easy to cover baby with a giant towel and slip off that wet swim diaper and damp swim suit. Undercover you can put on his fresh suit or summer clothes. No one can have too many hooded towels; they make the perfect baby gift.

Eight Monogramming Tips for Baby Gifts

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011
What decisions do you need to make before monogramming a baby gift?
Monogramming a baby blanket or outfit is the most elegant touch you can add. A monogram makes every gift special.  It is very important to decide the order of the initials for the monogram .Three letter monograms are
available in many styles. Some monograms put the last name in the middle and some put all of the initals in the order of the names. It is easy to make a mistake and put the middle name  where the last name should be.
Monograms are available in many shapes and sizes so here are some tips to help you select the perfect monogram for your personalized baby gift.
1. Choose the correct monogramming style

Block 3 letter monogram with last name in the middle

How do you choose a monogram style?
If you want all of baby’s initials the same size choose this type of monogram. THM These letters  are all the same size and start with the first initial of the
first name, then the middle name and finally the last nme. The font is usually block,
This size of this monogram can range from1/2 inch wich is just large enough to fit
on an infant lap shirt or 6 inches which  would  look terrific on the front of a diaper bag.
B. If you want  more traditional monogram,. choose a monogram with the initial of the last name larger than the other two initials. These monograms are
also 3 letters ,but the middle letter is the last name and  is larger than the first and last initials.
The font can be block or script and look best when
they are at least 1 inch.
2. Monogram baby stuff that you want to be important. Monograms look great on baby blankets, pillows, clothing, quilts, towels , shopping cart covers, carseat covers, diaper bags , towels and baby wipe cases.
3. Decide where to put a large monogram.
We recommend putting large monograms or baby blankets and quilts. The monogram is embroidered in the
middle of the blanket or centered on the bottom  of the blanket. If the quilt has a border, the monogram is equally beautiful on the top of the quilt or on the bottom.
4.  Smaller monogram look best when angled in the corner of a blanket .
5.  Smaller monograms are our choice  for baby clothing. After all the baby is the feature, you don’t want the monogram overpowering the star attraction. Embroider small monograms on the  collar or right side near the neck of baby clothing.
6. Choosing the color of the monogram is very important.

This monogram is embroidered in white to make the monogram the feature

You need to decide if the monogram is  the feature of the item or just an accent. If you want the monogram to be noticeable , make sure the thread color is a contrast to the fabric. For example, if your blanket is light blue, choose a navy or chocolate brown embroidery. If your blanket is hot pink. choose white as a contrasting color. White thread on a dark background creates a beautiful contrast as shown in the picture to the left.
Sometimes, you want a very soft monogram and might choose a soft blue on  a blue background or light pink on a white background. The color choice is very important so take your time in selecting the  right color.
7.. Monograms offer a good alternative when you have a baby with very long names or  a middle name that is the Mother’s family name.  Many blankets don’t have room for three names or two very lengthy names. With a monogram you can use all of baby’s names as initials and you have created a personalized gift that will please everyone.
8. Sometimes your want to choose a monogram rather than a name.Monograms are a good solution  if Mothers want a baby item personalized but are fearful of having the baby’s name on an article of clothing.
Monograms make everything look luxurious and costly. They add a touch of class to all of baby’s accessories and every monogrammed item becomes a  special personalized keepsake.

Celebrate Earth Day By Adding Green To Your Nursery

Sunday, April 17th, 2011

Earth Day is just Around the corner. Celebrate Earth Day Friday ,April 22 which also happens to be good Friday.  Make this a really good day and help the planet sustain itself  while  helping your baby acheive a healthy life style by introducing organic baby products to the nursery.  At NamelyNewborns we have a wide assortment of organic towels from 3 Sprouts and beautiful handcrafted organic blankets that we design exclusively for us. Our organic baby blankets are large enough for tummy time, yet pack into a compact square to fit into most diaper bags.

Organically grown cotton is better for the health of your family and the environment. It is that simple.

What is organic?

Organic cotton  is cotton grown naturally without the use of harmful chemicals. Organic farming relies on natural processes to grow, maintain and harvest the cotton, rather than the chemicals in pesticides, herbicides and synthetic fertilizers used in growing conventional cotton.
It is more time consuming and expensive that non- organic production.

Did you know…
  • It takes 1/3 of a pound of chemicals to make one conventional cotton t-shirt?
  • 7 of the top 15 chemicals used in conventionally grown cotton are classified as “known” or “suspected” carcinogens by the EPA?

We suggest you add an organic blanket or an organic towel to baby’s layette. Every little bit makes a difference. Start by trying one organic product. Who knows you might decide it is worth the extra expense for a purer safer product. If we all support the organic manufacturers, they will continue to produce more and more organic products that will help our planet and provide a safer product for our children.

Cute As A Button Baby Shower

Friday, March 25th, 2011

You are never going to go wrong if you choose a baby shower theme that will let you incorporate as many things as you want without ruining the theme. Some themes will not let you do this because otherwise, the theme will be ruined, like using the pink panther theme even if someone is having a baby boy. You might wish there was a blue panther but you know there isn’t one. You can choose a Blues Clues theme and that would be perfect for a baby boy, but what if the baby happens to be a girl? Once again, it will be awkward. For you next baby shower, why don’t you try a cute as a button baby shower theme that will prove delightful and not at all gender-restrictive. It can work for a girl baby and it can work for a boy baby so that you do not have to bust your brains coming up with a way to make the theme fit the baby’s sex. The mother to be will be delighted since it will be a functional and yet also a very cute theme for her baby shower party.

You can choose this theme and have a lot of fun coming up with ways to make things cute as a button for the baby shower; you better believe that a lot of things can be cute as a button especially buttons which are always viewed as necessity and not exactly something that is a cause for celebration. You can incorporate the themes from the invites, to the cake and even to the party favors that you give your guests one the party is done.

First thing that you do is to give out the invites. But before you do that, you have to make sure that they fit your theme very well. You can shop around for invitation packages that feature buttons, or you can also design your own if finding ones that you like are proving impossible. Print out your invites in some special paper in the color that you have decided on and glue a single button on the top most part of that paper. Then get some ribbons and decorate the edges of the invitations. After that, you just lick the envelopes and you send them out. That is step one.

Next, you come up with the cute as a button baby shower theme for your cake. Everyone loves cake and even more so if it looks as cute as button. You pick the cake of your choice and you can sprinkle it with some edible chocolate buttons that you may buy from specialty chocolate stores of even in your local market. You can even make some cookies that look like buttons to put around your cake. These chocolate buttons and cookies can also be served to your guests when the time to eat rolls around. You will need some centerpieces and for this, get a clear glass container, a mug or a jar will do, fill it with buttons and stick a flower in it; this will look very cute. Also, you may use buttons as confetti for the buffet table.

Find come button shape soap or button covered picture frames that you can hand out as party favors. Your guests will want something to remember a baby shower that was as cue as a button.
